Mangalore Nov 20: Former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi’s birthday was observed all over the country on November 19 and in a special way in the city.
Members of the Congress party, prominent amongst them being DCC president B Ramanath Rai offered floral tributes to the portrait of Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 90th birthday at the District Congress office in the city on Monday, Nov 19.
In his inaugural speech Ramanath Rai spoke at length about the sacrifices made by the former PM Indira Gandhi and her family, including former PM Rajiv Gandhi for the sake of the nation. Poignantly recalling their contributions, he said “Leaders of other parties can merely speak but cannot back their words with action.”
Further Rai opined that only Congress is the party which can bring peace in society. He also exhorted his party men, especially all block presidents to work zealously to fulfill Indira Gandhi’s vision.
Another District Congress Committee (DCC) office-bearer Harikrishna Bantwal, in his speech declared that the need of the hour would be to take the youth into confidence and work towards regaining power in the State and the Centre. In this context, giving a clarion call to his party-men he said “It is imperative for every member to work towards bringing glory to the party.”
Also present on the occasion were DCC women’s wing president Mamata Gatti, former MLC Octavia Albuquerque, party leaders Suresh Ballal, Vijayakumar Shetty, K S M Masood and K Ashraf.
