Udupi, Nov 19: The National Highway (NH) 17 which has reached beyond motorable condition lately, will be repaired by the end of coming December, informed the regional executive engineer of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
The executive engineer has written a letter to B Govindaraj Hegde, convener of ‘Save National Highway’ struggle committee, recently.
NH 17 passes through Hejamady to Shiroor, under the purview of Udupi district, with a distance of 241 kilometers. Out of which the stretch of 68 kilometers lies in pathetic condition. A proposal has already been sent to the higher officials to repair this stretch of NH, he stated in his letter.
The patch up work on many potholes along the NH will be undertaken swiftly while the entire work would likely to be completed by the end of coming December, he stated.
The contractors were awarded with the works contract, to carry out work on the stretch of 20 kilometers out of a total of 68 kilometers. Moreover the proposal has been submitted to carry out repairs on the stretch of NH, between Shiroor to Uppunda and Kallianpur - Kumbashi to Sastan and Kaup to Padubidri. At the same time, the incomplete work which was carried forward from the last year, will be completed this year, he stated.
