Madrid, Jul 6 (IANS): New Sevilla chief coach Jorge Sampaoli has said that he intends to try and maintain the football club's level of success in the wake of the departure of Unai Emery.
Emery made history with Sevilla, leading the club to three consecutive Europa League titles and his will be big shoes to fill. But former Chilean coach Sampaoli on Tuesday said he would stay true to his own style of coaching, reports Xinhua.
"All I can say is the idea which brought me here is not going to change. Results will judge whether I am successful or not, but I would not forgive myself if I turned my back on a style of play that is extremely attacking and which allows us to search for our objectives," he told Sevilla's website.
"What I have found here is ambition and greatness and that is exciting as it inspires us to work to ensure that the club keeps growing and is able to compete against the biggest clubs in Europe," he added.
"We want to win everything and to try everything and we are going to try and build the most competitive squad possible so that it has a chance of success."
Sevilla will return to competitive action before the Spanish league campaign kicks off when they face Champions League winners Real Madrid for the European Supercup: the first title of the season.
