Mangalore, Nov 13: Clinical dentistry has progressed leaps and bounds in the last 2 decades and India has kept pace with the dental and oral health care delivery in attaining global standards. This has not been the case so far as dental research is concerned, said Dr C Bhasker Rao, vice-president, Dental Council of India while inaugurating the central research lab facility at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Deralakatte on Sunday November 11. While calling on young faculty and the students alike to contribute in applied research in the field of dentistry he mentioned that a lot of external and internal financial resources go unused due to the sheer lack of motivated researchers.
Dr Shantharam Shetty, vice-vhairman, Nitte Education Trust in his presidential address expressed the vision and commitment of the trust towards promoting research in dentistry.
The newly-inaugurated facility shall cater to the research needs of the entire campus and the neighbouring institutions also. The ongoing research initiatives include head and neck cancer, dental caries, periodontal, dental material research, HIV- AIDS research etc.
Dr B.Rajendra Prasad, principal and dean, Dr N Sridhar Shetty, director, Speciality Training Centre, Dr U S Krishna Nayak, dean, Academics, Dr Gopakumar R, research coordinator were also present on the occasion.
