Udupi, Nov 8: The Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, located at Pamboor near Shirva here will be celebrating its decennial celebrations soon. The valedictory of the decennial ceremony will be held on Wednesday November14.
The centre has completed 10 years in the mission of training and rehabilitating the mentally-challenged, differently-abled as well as speech and hearing impaired children. Within the short span of time, it has won award from child welfare department of Karnataka Government. The children of Manasa represented India in World Special Olympics and won the medals.
Mangalore Pradesh Catholic Sabha has been managing the centre through Manasa Trust. At present, a total of 148 children from 6 states belonging to various castes and creed have been accommodated here. They are being provided with formal as well as vocational training in book binding, computers, candle-making etc. The doctors and medical students of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), visit them regularly.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore will be presiding over the valedictory function. Former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, will be inaugurating the programme. Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, deputy commissioner Ponnuraj, former minister Vasant Salian and the local body representatives will be the chief guests on this occasion, stated their press release.
