Mangalore, Nov 8: It is now the turn of the student community to raise its voice against the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ). The group ‘Youth in Solidarity with Farmers’ launched a candle-light vigil against MSEZ at the Town Hall venue here on Wednesday November 7 evening.
Hundreds of college students from various colleges voluntarily gathered in front of the Town Hall and participated in this unique protest.
Speaking on the occasion, activist Madhukar Amin pointing out the disadvantages of going ahead with the SEZ, said that if this happens then in all 20% of Dakshina Kannada district would be taken over by the SEZ. This will indeed be a huge hazard he declared, expressing his deepest concern.
According to T R Bhat of the Corporation Bank the SEZ would lead to huge amount of environmental pollution. Thus there will be grave danger of upsetting the ecological balance of Dakshina Kannada. Therefore he demanded vociferously that the SEZ should be stopped and opposed at any cost.
Many NGO leaders were also present on the occasion.
