Mangalore, Nov 7: Department of surgery of Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC) will be organizing free Gastroscopy camp from November 12 to November 17, at their premises, in collaboration with Syndicate Bank, Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) branch, stated Dr Divakar Shenoy, head of department of surgery FMMC, here on Wednesday November 7.
Gastroscopy is an examination of the inside of the gullet, stomach and duodenum. It is performed by using a thin, flexible fiber-optic instrument, which passed through the mouth, allowing the doctor to see whether there is any damage to the lining of the Oesophagus (gullet) or stomach, and whether there are any ulcers in the stomach or duodenum, he added.
Smoking and drinking are main causes of gastric and other related health complications. Earliest diagnosis may help physicians to cure diseases and prevent loss of lives. Gastroscopy is one of the effective ways to control the above referred complications, he added while clarifying the objective of organizing the free camp.
The diagnosis during the camp includes two blood tests. Both the tests will be conducted free of cost, mainly to help those who cannot access to high-quality health care. Moreover, it is advised that the visitors must ensure they undergo tests on an empty stomach or after six hours of their meals, he added.
The free camp will be a boon to corporate birds, who lead hectic lifestyle and they are prone to gastric related health complications, he suggested.
Titus Noronha, organizer, was also present at the press meet.
