Udupi, Nov 7: The first Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) was formally inaugurated at Manipal near here on Tuesday November 6. Incidentally this is the first-ever EHTP in undivided Dakshina Kannada too.
Hardware Technology is approved by the ministry of communication and information technology, Government of India, which is headed by Narasimha Bhat, MD of Manipal DotNet Private Limited. He said that they have the permission to design, develop and manufacture electronic hardware for export.
Bhat said that the unit was officially inaugurated on Monday November 5 by Wayne P Heideman, CEO and co-founder Qvislabs. Bhat an MIT- Manipal product did his computer science from the Indian institute of science, Bangalore and University of California at Berkeley. Soon after that he worked for AT&T, Bell Labs, Murray Hill and Synopsys Inc, USA.
Bhat came to Manipal in 1997 to start an R&D team for Synposys, the first Software technology park, India (STPI) in the district. He said that there is a huge talent base of electronic engineers in the Udupi/Mangalore area, and many of them are interested in hardware but most of the jobs are in software field.
According to Bhat that EHTP status gives plenty of opportunities for hardware jobs to interested people. Under the EHTP scheme MDN will design and manufacture state-of- art electronics for use in hand-sets and the automotive industry, he informed.
