Mangalore, Nov 5: “Everyone works for livelihood. One should show compassion and love towards others especially in the relation between lords and servants, declared Sister Mischelle, chair person, of BANDAVYA here on Sunday, November 04.

She was addressing the “Domestic workers awareness and empowerment programme,” jointly organized by the Domestic workers integral development forum, Nazreth Convent, Balmatta and Human resource management forum, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, held in the college auditorium.

Every domestic worker must know that he or she can seek the help of the forum. Any numbers of seminars or symposium can be organized, famous speakers can be invited to deliver lecturers, but it is domestic workers who can make differences when they face problems, she urged the domestic workers.

According to Sister Mischelle empowerment does not mean fighting or abusing, rather it is mutual understanding. The greatest strength lies in identifying problems oneself and finding solutions. The serious challenge faced by a domestic worker in life is fighting for their rights and removal of obstacles. Therefore she advised that “Forming groups is not a challenge but maintaining them is a challenge.”
 
“Domestic workers always render valuable service. Without their assistance no social worker can discharge his or her duties. It is about time, we should help servants and lords to build a cordial relationship between them, declared the guest of honour Judith Mascarenhas, the former deputy mayor of Mangalore City Corporation in her address to the gathering.

Another speaker Ronald Sequeira, faculty coordinator of DWIDF informed that Roshni Nilaya is mulling over a pension scheme for domestic workers mainly to better their social life and provide necessary help to them in their rough-times.

Sister Elise Mary, coordinator of DWIDF, welcomed the gathering.
