Mangalore, November 4: “Distant education faces more challenges than formal education”, opined M Maheshwara Rao the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, while speaking at the inaugural session of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) new regional centre here, at Sahodaya Karnataka Theological College Premises, Balmatta on Saturday, November 03.
 
According to Rao learning is supposed to be a continuous process, but some students do take break for various reasons. The break in the formal education thus gives rise to distant education. Here candidates or students may lack basics of subjects he or she wants to pursue, he informed.
 
High entry barriers set during admission procedure is essential, this really makes students to feel proud of degree they obtain from universities, he suggested while appreciating the efforts put by the university in designing courses.

B A Vivek Rai, vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Open University speaking on the occasion informed that 192 non-teaching staff and 42 teaching staff will be appointed by December. He also said that the process of appointing 42 staff, including 37 lecturers and five readers, has already been started.

According to Rai disclosing the future plans he said KSOU will be establishing study centres at border areas and places identified are Belgaum, Tumkur and Chamaraj Nagar.
 
A brief profile of KSOU and new programmes launched during 2007-08 and Study center coordinators' manuals, were released by the dignitaries on the occasion.
 
KN Lingappa registrar of KSOU University welcomed the gathering and Dr Nirmala C Prakash, dean of KSOU compered the programme and prof Vivek Rai, vice chancellor of KSOU presided over the function. And Sadananda was the chief guest at the function.

    I start my 1st BA in 2007-08 in ksou mangalore and also attend 1st year exam. But next year i can't continue this course the cause of some problems and i lost id number also. I am interested in continue this course. what can i do? pls send my id(roll)no and give sugetion to continue this
