Udupi, Jun 5: World Environment Day was observed by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojane, Udupi taluk unit in association with Paryaya Adhokshaja Math and Sri Krishna Math Udupi, here at Rajangana on Sunday, June 5.
Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, Pejawar Math inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural address, he said, “Nature is soul of the nation. Preservation of nature is necessary for future generation. Each individual should be committed towards this and take part in nature conservation task. Nature will be prosperous only if we plant saplings all around. Govardhana Puja of Lord Sri Krishna story theme connects to preservation of environment.”
“It is our responsibility to preserve natural assets and make the surroundings green. All of us should join hands together in this sacred cause,” he added.
Narendra Rai Derla, a columnist spoke on the importance of nature and its preservation on the occasion.
Hundreds of saplings were distributed to people on the occasion.
Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha, junior seer, Pejawar math, K M Udupi, managing trustee, BVT Manipal and others were present.
Purushottam P K welcomed the gathering, Malathi Dinesh proposed vote of thanks.
