Udupi, Nov 2: Former state medical education minister MLC Dr VS Acharya inaugurated the Annual Conference of International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSACON 2007) at Manipal.
The theme of the conference this year is "Frontiers of Medicine – Medicine in the 21st Century"
The International Medical sciences academy was established as a global organisation in 1981 in New Delhi. IMSA is a registered society with regions in America, Australia, India, Rest of Asia and Europe. Dr K Jagadeeshan, the eminent transplant surgeon and recipient of the BC Roy Award is its president. IMSA is an associate member of the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS), WHO, Geneva. It has over 2000 members and has chapters in most states of India.
Mauritius, Patiala in Punjab, Mayo Clinic in USA, Kochi in Kerela, Cambridge in UK and Lahore in Pakistan are the places where the IMSACON was held in the last few years. This year Dr Padmaraj Hegde from KMC Hospital, Manipal is the organizing secretary and urologist Prof Joseph Thomas is the scientific programme chairman.
The organizers have emphasized that owing to the boom of new technologies in Medical Sciences field where global contemporary reality is changing, it is a time for learning, renewing and updating knowledge and information.
The convocation to confer fellowships will be held on Saturday at the Chaitya hall in Manipal and Prasar Bharati Chiarman , Dr MV Kamath will be the chief guest.
Dr Ramdas M Pai, chancellor and president Manipal University is the Chief Patron of the IMSACON and Dr Ranjan Pai, CEO of the Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) is the chairman.
Senior Advisor for IMSACON 2007, Pro-chancellor of Manipal University Dr HS Ballal informed that the highlights of the conference include talks, discussions and papers of national and international repute and significance.
The prestigious Dr TMA Pai Oration will be delivered by renowned Nephrologist Dr Sudharshan Ballal from Manipal Hospital, Bangalore and the Dr Narasimha Rao oration would be delivered by Dr Irwin Taylor.
