Kundapur, Oct 29: Paddy growers of the coastal district of Udupi have been left in the lurch owing to continuous rain from the beginning of the Navarathri festival.
The farmers could not reap the harvest as bundles of stalked paddy have gone rotten in their fields. Many of the paddy fields in places like Beejadi, Tekkatte, Kodi, from Uppinkudru to Uppunda have been under water resulting in the break down of harvesting operation.
Comparing with the yield of the previous year, this year the produce has generally been found better. But, unfortunately many of the paddy fields, have not under gone the harvesting operation because of unusual heavy downpour.
Unlike during the last year there has been no such infection called “Benki Roga”. Many of the farmers were expecting a good yield. But a specter of uncertainty is haunting them owing to excessive rain.
The state is now under governor’s rule and the growers are looking for his timely help. But does it come forth?
