Udupi: Married man ends life when alone at home

Udupi, May 25: Prabhakar Poojary (45), residing at Sampigenagara in Kampanabettu Udayavara near here killed himself by hanging. He tied a bedsheet to the roof beams at the kitchen of his house and hanged himself with a noose made on the other end of the bedsheet on Tuesday May 24.

Prabhakar's wife, Vasanti, is employed in a hostel at Udyavar. She had left home on Monday evening for work. When she returned home after duty hours on Tuesday morning, she found to her horror that her husband had committed suicide. The children of the deceased had gone away on visit of relatives on account of summer holidays. Taking advantage of his loneliness, Prabhakar supposedly end his life.

The police have gathered information that Poojary was heavily addicted to liquor, and therefore slipped into depression often. He killed himself during the period between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, Vasanti said in her complaint filed in Kaup police station. Kapu police, who have registered a case, have begun investigation.
