Kundapur, May 24: A well planned theft by a group of thieves of wholesale Pan Masala products stored at a godown came to light, near Prabhat Stores in the city on the night of Monday May 23.

Kundapur police who swung into action seized the vehicles used for the theft.

Prabhat Stores' owners are wholesale dealers. They had stored Pan Masala worth lacs in their own godown behind their shop. Pan Masala products of Rs 1 lac worth were stolen from the godown in a recent theft of about one and a half months ago. Unaware of who stole them and when, the matter was left at that.

When the owner went out for a stroll, he saw an auto suspiciously parked there and noted down its number. The auto driver who saw him fled. The owner on coming to the godown detected the theft.

The thieves had gone to the back of the godown, climbed the concrete building, removed the tiles on the roof of the godown, entered and decamped with lacs worth products and fled after loading them in the
auto. About 15 sacks were left behind at the godown. On knowing that the owner got suspicious of their presence, they abandoned the auto and escaped. Police have seized the auto and the bike. Empty Pan Masala bags were found in the auto. Sandals and alcohol bottles were found near the godwon.

Police circle inspector P M Diwaker visited the place and followed the thieves. A police case was registered at Kundapur police station. The suspected persons were then questioned.
