Margao, May 21(TOI): Responding to the statement made by All India Congress committee (AICC) general secretary incharge of Goa desk Digvijaya Singh, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the Congress may have to review its decision not to have a grand alliance in view of the election results of the four states which went to polls recently.
Turning down the offer to join the Congress, Sardesai - the man behind the Goa Forward Party - said that the request cannot be accepted. The Congress needs to know the ground reality and the mood of the people, he said.
Sardesai said that unlike many of the Goa Congress leaders having links with BJP, Singh is one leader who represents secular and progressive thoughts.
On Thursday, Singh, replying to questions, said that the Congress was not interested in having any alliance with any party, but would like Sardesai to join the party.
Referring to the Thursday's results of assembly elections, Sardesai said the electorate has reposed faith in regional parties and exuded confidence that in Goa, too, the trend may not be any different.
The grand alliance is the flavor of the season but some senior leaders of the Congress refuse to listen to the mood of the people, he said.
They seem to be awakened by the movement in the Aam Admi Party (AAP) for the visit of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday. Unity of progressive forces is a must to oust the BJP in Goa, he asserted.
