Bengaluru, May 20: Unfazed by the governor's disinterestedness in the past to consider the name of Justice S R Nayak to the post of state Lokayukta, the government has again sent recommendation to the governor, seeking to make him the state Lokayukta.
Sources revealed that the government has explained that the post of Lokayukta is of primary importance, and a Kannadiga would serve the institution better as he would be able to lend an ear to the grievances of the people and function in that post without any problem.
The name of Justice Vikramjit Sen had also been proposed for the post, but the government says that Justice Nayak, who has in-depth experience in the field of delivery of justice, having worked as the chief justice of the high court and chairman of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, happens to be the most suitable candidate. It has noted that Justice Nayak has also been discharging duties as the current chairman of Law Commission in an exemplary manner. Another point the government has banked on is the rare 'Nadoja' honour conferred on Justice Nayak by Hampi University.
The government, which said that it has finalized the name of Justice S R Nayak to the post after considering all the aspects, has also clarified that none of the rules and regulations have been violated in making this recommendation.
