Mangalore Oct 26: Finally the Railways has opened its eyes and has put an end to all the complication related to the names of the two railway stations in Mangalore. Mangalore and Kankanady railway stations will no more called so, instead they have been renamed as Mangalore Central and Mangalore Junction respectively, informed a press release from Bharatiya Janata Party here on Thursday.
According to the release, BJP had noted the problem that worried many a passenger, and had brought it into the notice of the railways five years ago. The requests from various quarters have yielded results at last.
The Southern Railway has forwarded a message regarding the renaming of the stations to Mangalore MP Sadananda Gowda and Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwara Rao.
The name change will come into effect with the official publication in the gazette.
It may be recalled that the BJP had undertaken various struggles for the cause and even on Wednesday, the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry had staged a hunger strike pressing this demand.
