Tumakuru, May 12: In this home district of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, G Parameshwar, JDS-BJP wrested power in the zilla panchayat (ZP) by entering into an alliance. Lata Ravikumar of JDS was elected the president of the zilla panchayat while BJP's Sharada Narasimhamurty was chosen as vice president.
Congress has a strength of 23 in this 57-member zilla panchayat. After JDS stood firm on not supporting it, Congress tried its best to get external support from BJP, but failed to achieve its objective. It is said that differences of opinion between district in-charge minister, T B Jayachandra, and Madhugiri MLA, K N Rajanna, also created problems for the Congress. There have been allegations that KPCC president does not exercise proper control over the party's district committee, and he failed to take prompt and correct decision.
Although BJP has 19 members in the ZP as against 14 held by the JDS, the post of the president has been given to JDS.
