18 Bethany nuns celebrate silver jubilee of profession

Media release

Mangaluru, May 12: May 11 marked the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the religious profession of 18 Bethany sisters. Dr Jerald Isaac Lobo, the bishop of Udupi , presided over the concelebrated Eucharistic Sacrifice.

The bishop profusely congratulated the sisters for sacrificing their lives to serve Jesus and the humanity. Fr Swebert D’ Silva SJ during his homily affirmed that these sisters were fascinated with the personality of Jesus whom he too follows zealously having been personally enthused with His life of truth, justice and freedom. He underscored the contribution of these sisters in different parts of India in the field of education, medical care, social work, pastoral work and other humanitarian activities. Narrating the story written Tagore about the King and the beggar, he exhorted them to continue to give as much as they can so that the Divine master turns all their activities into golden grains.

During the felicitation programme Sr Rose Celine plentifully thanked the sisters for their generous service to the humankind. She observed that in spite of 25 years of service they appeared still vibrant and youthful in spirit.

Five of these sisters who are trained in MSW are working in the remotest parts of the country especially for the liberation of women and children as per the vision of Mgr Raymond Mascarenhas the founder of the Congregation.
