Goa public functionaries asked to declare assets

Panaji, May 10 (TOI): The Goa Lokayukta has asked public functionaries like elected representatives, ministers and sarpanches to file details of their assets and liabilities for the financial years between 2012 and 2016 before June 30 this year. "The public functionaries have been informed that they are required to file their respective statements of assets and liabilities for the financial year 2012-16 before June 30, 2016," said a Lokayukta officer.

The state government had recently appointed retired justice P K Misra has Lokayukta of Goa.
The Lokayukta issued a public notice on Monday asking public functionaries to file their statements. "The details should be filed as defined in section 2(q) of the Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011 in the prescribed format in Form III provided under rule 13 of the Goa Lokayukta Rule, 2012, held by him/her or by any other person on his/her behalf and those members of his/her family to the Institution of Goa Lokayukta, and should continue to file their statements of assets and liabilities in the years to come," the notice reads.

"Those who have not submitted their statement of assets and liabilities in the prescribed proforma for the financial years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 should file the same before June 30," the notice further adds. "Non-compliance with the above requirement shall attribute the consequences provided in subsection (2) of section 21 of the Goa Lokayukta Act 2011," the Lokayukta office said
As per provisions in the Act, if no such statement is received by the Lokayukta from the public functionary within the specified time, the next course of action is to make a report to the competent authority, with a copy marked to the public functionary concerned. If within two months of such a report, the public functionary does not submit the statement of his assets and liabilities, the Lokayukta shall publish the names of such public functionaries in two newspapers having wide circulation in the state with a report to the governor, who may then place the matter before the legislative assembly of Goa.
