Bike rider killed after truck knocks him down, drags along

Kundapur, May 5: After a truck hit a motor bike near a garage at Siddapur downtown on Kundapur-Shivamogga state highway on Wednesday May 4, the bike rider was killed instantly. The victim has been identified as Mohan Shetty (48), a merchant from Siddapur in the taluk.

The truck that was moving towards the town from Siddapur got involved in a head-on collision with the motor bike that was moving towards Siddapur from Amparu. Even after the collision, the truck dragged the motor bike to a distance of nearly 20 metres. As such, Shetty's Body was torn into pieces.

Mohan Shetty, who owned his shop, 'Swati General Store' on Kadri Road, Siddapur, was soft-spoken and popular. He is survived by wife and two daughters. A case about the accident was registered in Shankarnarayana police station.

It is gathered that Shetty, who had attended the marriage of a relative, was returning to Siddapur at the time he got involved with the said accident. His body was kept in the government hospital at Siddapur.

A large number of people including zilla panchayat member, Haladi Taranath Shetty, taluk panchayat members, S K Vasudeva Pai and Umesh Shetty Kallugadde, Vandse block Congress president, Sampigedi Sanjeev Shetty, paid their last respects to the deceased.

The people living by the side of this highway are always fearful of losing their lives or getting injured because of recklessly driver huge trucks which move about on this road every day. In the form of Vishwanath, trucks have snuffed out the life of their third victim of this year.

    Unless we are strict on these heavy vehicle illiterate drivers they will kill 2 wheeler ride youngsters daily. May the soul of deceased rest in peace.
