Mangaluru, May 2: "The government must compensate the families of Raju Kotian and Safwan who were recently murdered by miscreants at Ullal, with Rs 25 lac each. It should also reimburse the cost of treatment of the victims who have been attacked in the various incidents at the same place and who are undergoing treatments in hospitals," announced Athaullah Jokatte, vice president of SDPI.
Athaullah was speaking at the press meet at SDPI office here on Monday May 2.
He also stated "Incidents like murders and murder attempts at Ullal have made people tense. Ullal has become a base for ganja addicts and communal miscreants. The murder of Raju Kotian on April 12 by ganja addicts is an illustration of this. This also shows that the police department has failed to curtail the ganja mafia. Raju Kotian's murder has become a reason for miscreants to attack the innocent. Miscreants had attacked Safwan on his return from catering. 6 attacks have taken place in the vicinity. Safwan hails from a poor family and is the sole breadwinner. He used to work as a welder in the day and for a catering business at night. He was not member of any organization,"
“The murders of Raju Kotian and Safwan have created tension in this civilized society. SDPI will condemn this brutal act. Though the police have arrested a few accused, there are still doubts among the public. Police must arrest the real culprits and plotters of the crime. The SDPI also demands a special action force within the commissionerate limits to stop such incidents,” Athaullah added.
"Neither health neither minister U T Khader nor district in-charge minister paid any tribute to the mortal remains of the victims. The police commissioner has said that the victims are innocent. Fearing a particular force, the ministers and district administration did not visit the families. SDPI strongly condemns this. If the government and district administration fail to solve this issue, then SDPI will hold a protest in front of DC office and minister’s residence.” Athaullah concluded.
Nawaz Ullal, chief secretary of SDPI, Jaleel K and others were present in the press meet.
