Bengluru, May 2: A nine-year-old girl living at Sunkadakatte falling within Kamakshipalya police station limits in the city died on Saturday April 30 evening in a freak accident. The girl was playing on a swing made of sari, when the sari got twisted and tightened around her neck, suffocating her to death.
The victim happened to be Anjali (9), daughter of Basavaraj and Gowramma couple from Srigandha Nagar Extension, Sunkadakatte in the city outskirts. The couple, which hails from Raichur, had shifted base to the city six years back.
Basavaraj is specially abled, and his wife went out for work. Anjali was the eldest of the couple's three children, and was a fourth standard student of a private school. Gowramma had tied a swing made of sari to the roof for the use of the youngest of the three children, a baby.
Gowramma was away at work, when Basavaraj, who was looking after children for sometime, came out because of hot conditions, and sat under a tree. Anjali and the other two children began playing with the swing. Anjali sat on the swing and began to twirl when the other two pushed the swing with all their strength. Suddenly one side of the sari got wrapped around her neck of Anjali, which turned tighter and the girl fell silent. Her sister, who noticed this, called her father and aunt. By the time both of them reached the spot, the girl had died, policemen of Kamakshipalya station said.
