Udupi, Apr 30: The Manipal University FAIMER International Institute for Leadership in Interprofessional Education (MUFIILIPE) along with Dr TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE and IPP) and Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal organised a one-day national workshop on interprofessional education and interprofessional practice at Manipal University here on Saturday Apr 30.
The workshop was designed to orient healthcare professionals to a broad range of issues related to interprofessional education and practice that calls for instructional reforms and curricular innovations.
Dr M S Valiathan, national research professor and chief guest of the workshop in his inaugural address stressed the importance of providing relief to human suffering through interprofessional approaches and lauded the organisers for designing such workshops to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr T M A Pai, the founder of modern Manipal.
Dr Ciraj A M, the course director of MUFIILIPE and deputy director of the Manipal Centre for Professional and Personal Development, Manipal University provided an overview to the workshop and spoke on the fundamentals of interprofessional education and practice. Dr John Gilbert, professor Emeritus, University of British Columbia, College of Health Disciplines and Member, Board of Directors, Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative deliberated about team work in interprofessional practice and highlighted the need for collaboration, cooperation and coordination in teamwork. Dr Anice George, dean, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal briefed on interprofessional competencies and Dr Anand R, associate dean and deputy director (quality and compliance), Mangaluru Campus discussed about framing objectives for interprofessional education. Dr Rajashekhar B, dean, School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University was the chief guest for the valedictory function.
