Bengaluru, Apr 21: In three different incident, nine persons including seven boys drowned on Wednesday April 20.
Four drowned in backwaters of Hemavathi reservoir at Gorur in Hassan district, three boys drowned in Linganakoppa Jannangi rivulet near Rioponpet in Shivamogga district, while two men drowned in Chandravalli pond in Chitradurga.
Jafia Khan (15), Fazia Khan (14), Sonu (16) and Afniya (12) drowned in Hemavathi backwaters at Gorur. These youngsters, who had visited the house of Faiz Unnisa at Konapur near the dam, were playing in water near the isle of the backwaters when they drowned. It is said that one among them drowned initially, and the others lost their life when trying to help their friends.
Out of the deceased, bodies of Jafia Khan, Fazia Khan and Sonu were found.
Tilak Kumar (17), Santosh (15), and Hemant (11), who left home with the stated purpose of swimming in the rivulet at LInganakoppa village, drowned. Fire brigade personnel found their bodies on Wednesday.
Madhu (21) from Avalihatti in Holalkere taluk, and Tippesh (21) from Jampayyanahatti slipped and lost their lives when they had gone to Chandravalli pond, which is connected to Chitradurga's history, to collect water. A case about the incident was filed in Kote police station.
