Udupi, Apr 20: “Hoige Friends, Palimar in collaboration with Namma Mane Namma Mara (Our Homes Our Trees) team has plans of embarking on a cost-free drive by way of planting saplings,” announced Avinash Kamath at the press club here, on Tuesday April 19.
He further added that Hoige Friends Club commenced four years ago and has organized various socio beneficial programmes like health camps, blood donation and similar drives.
Namma Mane Namma Mara team is a group of three like-minded individuals who formed it with the objective of protecting the environment by spreading the awareness of growing plants at home.
Avinash Kamath, Gururaj Sanil and Raviraj are the trio. This group which planted saplings only at homes took the project to the next level of planting saplings at all possible premises like offices, schools, colleges etc. They have successfully created a small garden and named it ‘Pancha Shakti Bana’ at Shivapura, Hebri.
Now with permission, both the teams are striving to plant saplings at every possible house at Palimar village with the intention of making the village greener. One has to only call one of the members who will come to the house if it is within a certain parameter to plant saplings at the place.
The entire process is free, but monetary assistance from interested parties willing to support the cause will enable the team to utilize the funds for buying more saplings. Both the teams have set Sunday as the day for house visits to interested parties and planting of saplings.
“The programme will commence at Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Palimar on Saturday April 23. The movement will be inaugurated by Shri P R Shrinivas Udupa, chief priest of the temple. Nine saplings will be planted in the vicinity of the temple while one will be planted at the neighbouring auto stand. All the ten saplings will be planted by eminent persons of Palimar, who will also be felicitated towards the end,” elucidated Avinash Kamath.
