Sirsi, Oct 15: The Second unit of country's prestigious Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant was heading towards world record by generating power continuously for 406 days.
Official Sources said 440 MW unit was completed in 401 days of generating power continuously yesterday and if it continuous to generate for six more days, it would be a world record in the field of generating nuclear power in the world.
The record of generating power continuously for 406 days stands in the name of a nuclear power plant of United States of America.
Now it is the time for second unit of Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant to make the world record, sources added.
At present two 440 MW capacity units were generating power and third and fourth unit of the same capacity were set ready to produce the power.
Kaiga Nuclear Plant, for good maintenance, has bagged several prizes including Gold Medal from Central Power Authority, 'Swarna Mayura' from World Environment Foundation and prestigious awards from National Security Organisations were prominent among the awards bagged by the unit, sources added.
