Kundapur, Apr 19: Two persons, who reportedly are involved with over 20 cases of theft and robbery and had escaped from the Udupi district prison at Hiriyadka a few months back, were arrested by personnel of Kota police station on Monday April 18.
Some policemen, who were on the road leading to Kome from Tekkatte in the taluk noticed these two persons whose movements looked suspicious, and who were loitering by the side of national highway, trying to decamp on seeing the policemen. The two were taken into custody. Upon inspection, it was found that they had an iron rod and a hacksaw blade used for cutting through iron bars.
On further interrogation, the two revealed their names as Kumar (23) from Hassan district, and Babhruvahan alias Ashok, also from Hassan, both of whom are needed in a number of cases of theft.
There are cases against the duo in Manipal, Bantwal, Puttur, Beltangady, Hassan, Byndoor, Kushalnagar and other police stations. They mostly took upon the role of rag pickers by pitching tents near bus stand or railway stations and at nights ventured out looking for soft targets for thefts, policemen said.
