Udupi, Apr 19: “The state government has released Rs 2.5 crore to each district under taskforce to fulfil the demands of water supply and Rs one crore grant under Bahugrama drinking water project,” said district-in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake in a district development review meet on Monday, April 18.
Further speaking about the government’s initiative to tackle drinking water woes, he said “Now the district authority is providing water for 18 villages. The government has also released Rs 1.20 crore to urban areas, out of which Udupi will get Rs 75 lac to tackle water scarcity.”
"As per the government norms, 135 LPCD water is required for a family. At present, people are consuming 200 LPCD water in two day. Hence the department has planned to supply water once in two days. The district authority is supplying tanker water for 21 villages in Udupi (10) and Kundapur (11)."
Talking about sand scarcity, he said, “People in coastal area are facing acute shortage of sand. To deal with the problem, PWD had called tender for four sand agencies, which was opposed by CRZ members who brought stay order against implementing unanimous policy. If they withdraw the stay order, the five new CRZ block will start mining sand.”
“We have 30 identified sand blocks in district where traditional methods are used for mining. We have decided in the meeting that the sand mined in the district will be used only in the district. The implementation of this decision is delayed due to 94 C and 94 CC valuations.”
“As per revenue department survey, approximately 73,794 hectares of deemed forest land has been identified, out of which 33' 877 hectares of land is retained and 34, 918 hectares is deleted.”
He demanded withdrawal of order that says that Kumki and Parambuku land come under deemed forest area (forest department).
“The district development department is taking care of supplying food for BPL card holders.”
“The waste management work has already started in 19 villages. In all, 26 lac has been released under Gram Vikas Yojana and Rs three crore is released to each district under ADB scheme. As many as 120 applications have been received under Matsashraya Yojana in the district.”
“Road project under Community Restoration in Progress (CRIP) will start at a cost of Rs 75 crores in both urban and rural areas."
