Russian cyclist Vorganov ready to return after WADA findings: Coach

Moscow, Apr 15 (IANS): Russian cyclist Eduard Vorganov, who retired after testing positive for banned substance Meldonium early this year, is ready to resume his career in case he is amnestied in light of the recent recommendations from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), his coach Alexander Tolkachev has said.

WADA announced on Wednesday that the concentration of less than one microgram of Meldonium in the body system of an athlete, whose doping tests were conducted before March 1, was acceptable and the athlete at the issue was not a subject to any sanctions whatsoever, reports Tass.

Tolkachev said on Thursday that Vorganov filed an inquiry with the International Cycling Union (ICU) asking the organisation to provide data on Meldonium’s concentration in his doping sample.

"Neither he (Vorganov), nor the Russian Cycling Federation have information on the discovered volume (of Meldonium’s concentration)," Tolkachev said.

"He made an inquiry via his lawyer with the ICU and we do not know how long it would take them to reply."

"He wants to return as he is a real professional," the coach of the 33-year-old cycling racer, who is Russia’s 2012 champion in team race, added.
