Meco launches Formula Junior Racing Series

Chennai, April 14 (IANS): Meco Motorsports announced on Thursday the launch of Formula Junior Racing Series (FJRS) which will provide an affordable platform for young, rookie aspirants to try their hand at the sport.

The first round of the series will be held on April 16-17 and the second from April 30-May 1 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.

The series includes 10 races spread over two rounds which will also have support events by way of two-wheeler races comprising four classes, including one for women.

The competitors in the FJRS will be driving the Formula LGB 1300 cars which belong to Meco Racing.

FJRS is a new entry-level Formula Racing Series for rookie drivers who have attended the Meco Racing Academy and an affordable step up from karting to racing.

This series is also a grooming ground for a seat with the Meco Racing Team taking part in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship.

The confirmed line-up of 12 drivers includes two from Sri Lanka. The winner of the series will get a free drive in the Formula LGB-4 class with Meco Racing in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship 2016.

The second placed driver in the series will be eligible for two rounds free and the third finisher, one round free in the same Championship.

FJRS promoter Akbar Ebrahim said in a release: “Our aim is to help young drivers coming straight out of the Racing Academy and with limited racing experience to showcase their skills and book a seat in our Pro Racing Team which takes part in the JK Tyre FMSCI- FLGB4 National Racing Championship."

“By racing in the Junior Series, these drivers will get a lot more seat time to further enhance their skills and prepare for the National Championship where they will be competing against experienced drivers."
