Mangalore Oct 11: "Mathsyagandha train that operated between Mangalore and Mumbai has been extended till Thiruvanathapuram. This is a conspiracy to facilitate the Malayalis, brushing aside people of this region and this move must be opposed by the people of this region unitedly," said city based advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepady.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, Hegde said that a preparatory meeting will be held at Hotel Woodlands on October 14 to discuss about the matter.

"With the train being extended till Thiruvanathapuram in Kerala, the reservation seats for other centres in coastal Karnataka has been reduced and accordingly people in this region find it very difficult to get a reservation.

The general berths are booked well in advance by the people from Kerala. We have found that only about 30 seats are available for the people from Mangalore," he added.

He said that Mathsyagandha was operating between Mangalore-Mumbai profitably with number of passengers increasing day by day. Hence, there was need for a new train in this route. While there good number of trains between Kerala and Mumbai, an additional one was not required at all.

He said that Mangalore specifically has been meted out with step motherly treatment as atmost priority has been given to the Malayalis.

"Kannadigas are brushed aside in the Railway department. In Mangalore there are only Malayalis employed and Kannadigas have to speak in Malayalam or in English for enquiries," he said and opined that even extension of Mathsyagandha to Thiruvananthapuram is the handy work of Malayalis.

Kannada Sahithya Parishat former state president Harikrishna Punaroor and others were present at the news conference.

All kannadigas are sleeping.  Past four railway ministers in the central were kannadigas, still we not gained any thing.  We must forget all political differences and fight unitedly against such move of shifting matsyaganda from mangalore to trivendrum.

It is very sad to konw that the perticular train was originating from mangalore has been extended to Kerala. How it was gett done and what our own elected presentative are doing. Have they did not come to know in forehad that this going to happen. Now the time to pressurise our elected representative to turn the thing right. Collectively we have to warn them that if this not happen, then for sure the people will not vote for them irrespeticve of their political affiliation. We have to educate the people, specially those educated have to come forward. Other wise except people every thign that belongs to magaloreans will be in Maleyalis hand.

Not too long ago, in the year 2004, our very able MP Mr. Sadananda Gowda promised to sleep on the railway tracks between Mangalore and Bangalore until the train was commissioned. This was during the election campaign for pariliament.

After he got elected Mr. Gowda probably realised that the tracks were too rough for his liking. Now comes the news of Matsyagandha being extened. We do not want Mr Gowda to sleep on the track again and risk being run over by Matsyagandha. However, it is time we asked some fundamental questions about the attitude of our representatives. If Keralites are able to get things done, it is because of they way they and their representatives work for the state, irrespective of religion or caste. Unfortunately, our representatives know that they do not need to work hard to get elected, all they need to do is talk of religon and caste, and people will readily follow.

This rarely happens in kerala Note that even now the major political party of the district is only talking about converting Bababudangiri, Lingayat consolidation, and everything except development. That is because they know that only these things will matter when people vote, not roads or trains. Their suporters too, will find all sorts of excuses for their leaders non-performance. So don't get too upset, we collectively deserve this

It is very unfortunate that the People of Mangalore are subjected to this kind of humiliation by again and again slapping on their faces and systematically depriving facilities and opportunities! I am not promoting any kind of violence or revolution. But acts of this kind must be resisted. With most of the trains extended to Kerala, someone is trying to deprive Mangalore from growing commercially important and thus deprive the people of this area of different opportunities and render the city and the citizens of Mangalore financially disadvantaged. It may be too long before one is deprived of everything legal and appropriate and before every conscientious Mangalorean awakes!

Let all kannadigas who hv availed this facility come together and fight for their right as this is the only direct train we hv to reach our hometown. For a senior citizen like me, taking a flight is too expensive and travelling by bus is impossible. I hv been enjoying this train journey for the past few years and if its extended to kerala, it will be filled with malayalees leaving very little scope for reserving berths for mangaloreans. Please fight for our rights.

It gives me great pain to read that the Matsyagandha train is extended up to Tiruvananthapuram. We the Mangalorian should protest in loud voice. As Kannadigas we have but one train that we can truly say from Mangalore to Mumbai. With only 30 berths available in Mangalore station, where will all people travelling from Mangalore get the berths? Can the protest be louder than mere words in the paper? Lily Fernandes

Mr. Madan Bondal, I agree with your views and appreciate your concern about Kannadigas. But I am sorry to say, this feeling of Kannadiga only originates in the hearts of few, when we are badly pushed against wall. Few weeks before, rather months, I had posted my comments, related to Air India express maiden flight, DXB to Mangaluru, in which inaugural Welcome was made, in couple of languagess, including Malayalam, except Kannada, in spite of the fact Mangaluru is STILL IN KARNATAKA. There were few, MATURED comments, asking, ‘so what, you will initiate any AGITATION? ‘’ Please don’t call me a chauvinist.

If Keralites wanted an additional train to Mumbai, the Railways could have introduced an additional train instead of extending Matsyaganda express which was meant exclusively for the people of Konkan coast upto Mangalore since there was no other train to Mumbai. This is a big blow to people of Karnataka coastal belt and an agitation against this conspiracy should be launched with involvement of people.Petitions through e.mails thru your popular channel and meetings with local political leaders should be held.

The move of railways is due to failure of our elected representatives to safeguard the interests of people of Karnataka so far as railway network is concerned. We have to fight against this injustice and prevail upon railways to revert back and maintain statusquo.

Great injustice to Kannadigas, sepcially Mangaloreans. Mathsyagandha is our only source of transport by rail, we need it to be prioratised to us rather than diversification.Inspite of several trains to Kerala. Everywhere Keralites are given importance. Besides having other train they travel by our train, n they r taking our precious Jewel Mathsyagandha, which we cannot tolerate. Immediate action have to be taken to hand over to us. Look forward for your co-ordination. Thanks n regards.
