Mumbai, Oct 10: For about two months, John Abraham became a recluse and cut off all connection with his friends and family to play one particular role.

And that role is that of the protagonist in Nagesh Kukunoor’s movie Aashayein . The film has John playing a gambler who discovers one day that he has only few days left to live.

In John’s words, it is a role that comes to an actor “once in a lifetime”. And John left no stone unturned to get under the skin of his character.

While shooting for the film in South India, John snapped all connections with his family, friends and even Bipasha Basu for more than a month. Not just this, he stopped eating his normal diet because he had to look sick in the movie. In this process he lost as much as 15 kgs of his bodyweight.

John says playing this role did not just take a physical toll. It also affected him mentally and emotionally.

Bipasha and John’s mom were very concerned about what John was doing to himself just because of a role, but the actor told them that the period of seclusion was very important to get the character right. And now that he has completed the shooting, John says he is glad to have emerged out of it.

The actor says if he ever has to play a similar role again, he would need a break of many months to muster up his energy.

Well, we will definitely look forward to this film.
