Udupi Oct 9: At a press meet organized here on Monday October 9, Vijay Kumar Hegde, working committee president of Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samithi (NVHS) questioning the reliability of Nagarjuna Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPCL) alleged that Nagarjuna is a fraud company without any financial credibility in the society and therefore made a forceful plea for an immediate CBI enquiry into the working of the company.
As everyone is aware NTPCL is currently involved in a coal-based power project in Nandikur village. According to Hegde the company is also changing its earlier statement of generating 1015 mega watts of power from this plant and saying that it will increase to 1,200 mega watts, he added.
Hegde also spoke about plans that were afoot on the formation of a state-level Horata Samithi with former Lokayuktha Venkatachalayya as its president to fight against the planned coal-based power plants at Bijapur, Hassan, Tumkur etc.
He further informed that a protest rally is scheduled to be held on Sunday October 21, as a step towards intensifying the fight. People from all walks of life such as members from religious institutions, student unions, women associations, farmers' union and real estate agents etc are expected to participate, he added. He was also confident of a favourable outcome of the verdict from the Supreme Court.
Advocate Pradeep Kumar Nandikur, Zilla Yuva Shakti member Prakash Jathan were among those present at the meet.
