Udupi, Oct 8: Those who are employed and educated from the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities should bring their weaker brethren to the mainstream of society, said Sundar Naik, chief executive officer (CEO) of Chikmagalur zilla panchayat here on Sunday October 7.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of District Aided Educational Institutions SC/ST Employees' Federation. He said that education is the mainstream of human life, there is no bar on intellectual thinking. Civilization which has no foundation will not prosper. Education helps develop curiosity and it is the gateway to progress, he added.
Naik further said that teachers have the prime role to play in the society. It is the major responsibility of teachers in shaping the character of students and developing them into model citizens. He also praised the role of Stree Shakti Self Help Groups (SHGs) in improving the economic status of women.
D K Badigar, president of the association presided over the function.
J V Vemanarayana, vice-president of the federation, Vithaldas Bannanje, retired block education officer, Sridhar Ullal and Guruvappa Master, were present on the occasion.
