Mangalore, Oct 6: The Suzlon Company returned the Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School playground in Kanchinadka here, succumbing to the protest. The land was seized by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for setting up the project of Suzlon Company.
As soon as the land was gained the company immediately started work on the land.
To stop the company in progressing any work on the said land, several organizations and school committee decided to stage a protest.
In the year 1992 – 93, 0.58 cents of land was set aside for putting up a school building, by Kundapur Assistant Commissioner. They also said that the remaining land should be used as a playground of the school for the children.
But the playground was taken over by the company and immediately started working on the land.
A 14-feet deep ditch was dug by the company which was posing a threat as well as causing inconvenience to the school children.
But the locals of Padubidri as well as school committee soon brought the matter to the notice of V Ponnuraj, deputy commissioner. They further urged him to save the playground.
Studying the problems of the locals as well as the school children, V Ponnuraj asked the company to vacate the playground.
The company also filled up the ditch as soon as they were asked to vacate.
