Mangaluru, Apr 1: Taking into account innumerable complaints received about the functioning of 'Mangalore One' integrated customer service centres in the city, the city corporation council has decided to set up a separate counter managed by a nationalized bank in the city corporation building within the next three months. There have been complaints about collection and accounting of self assessment property tax as well as water bill.

At the meeting of the city corporation council held on Thursday March 31, which was presided over by city mayor, Harinath, chief whip, Shashidhar Hegde, moved this proposal when the agenda was tabled. The same was approved.

It was decided that 'Mangalore One' will continue to collect the above bills for the next three months, till the bank counter becomes functional. After the bank counter is established, water bills and property taxes will be collected through that counter alone, and collection of city corporation bills through 'Mangalore One' centres will be discontinued, Hegde said.

As per the investigation report submitted by the central audit team on February 11, 2016, there is a difference of Rs 19,20,508 between the property tax collection amount as computed by the centre, and the actual amount deposited in the bank. The mayor said that a decision to vest this work to a nationalized bank was taken in view of this unreconciled account.
