Kasargod, Apr 1: In an accident which occurred at the main circle of Badiyadka downtown on Thursday March 31, a bike rider was killed, while the pillion rider suffered serious injuries.
The accident occurred when an Ambassador car moving towards Puttur from the direction of Kasargod hit a motor bike. Bike rider, identified as Satish (56), a retired government employee, who was a resident of Chambalthimar near Badiyadka, lost his life. His wife, Chandrakala, who suffered serious injuries, is being treated in a private hospital at Mangaluru. Chandrakala happens to be the principal of government higher secondary school here.
Satish is survived by a daughter.
Satish had visited Badiyadka with his wife in his motor bike, and was turning his motor bike towards Kasargod after buying a newspaper there, when a car that approached the spot at high speed hit him. Although Satish was rushed to the government hospital in the town, he could not be saved.
There have been allegations that taxi drivers who had parked their taxies nearby did not show interest to take the injured to hospital even after 20 minutes of the accident. The people of the area had conveyed information to police immediately, but there was delay on their part too in reaching the spot. Some said that Satish's life could have been saved if timely treatment was provided.
Local people, who note that a number of accidents are occurring of late in Badiyadka town because of absence of systems to check speed of vehicles, have demanded for erection of humps or speed breakers, besides posting traffic police in the town regulate traffic there.
