Mangaluru, Mar 26: Union minister for national highways, surface transport and ports, Nitin Gadkari, will be officially inaugurate the overbridge built at Bykampady across national highway 66.
He will also be laying foundation stone for the four-laning work for national highway 75 between BC Road and Addahole at a function being held at 2.30 pm at NMPT Hall Panambur on March 28.
For the highway widening work referred above, survey has been completed for a portion of the proposed road, and National Highways Authority of India will be executing widening work. Widening work of national highway between the city and BC Road has been completed, and there had been demand from various quarters to widen the highway till Addahole, which is 65 km from BC Road. Out of this, land acquisition survey has been completed for 45 km. For this work, 80 percent of cost will be contributed by executing agency and 20 percent by the central government.
Once completed, the four-laning work will significantly reduce time of travel between the city and Bengaluru. The second phase of Shiradi Ghat road development works, which will be undertaken after monsoon season, is expected to be completed next year. GVR Infra, which has bagged contract for this work, has already put together materials required for executing the project, is it gathered.
