Udupi, Mar 25: The members of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) staged a protest in collaboration with other organization on Friday, March 25 in front of clock tower opposing the stand of some Hindu outfits about DC Ibrahim’s name on Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara temple invite.

Jayan Malpe, member of DSS, said, “Coastal area is known for communal harmony. But some Hindu outfits are trying to sow the seed of communal disharmony to get political profit.”

“The powerful Hindu outfits are opposing DC Ibrahim's names on temple invitation only because he belongs to Muslim community. The same organisations never supported Dalit community over the appointment of Dalit priests in temples.”

“Many Dalits of the locality go to ‘Darga’ at Ullal without any differences,” he added.

Taking a cue from history, he further said, “In the past, Hazi Abdulla used to supply oil cans to Krishna Math to light the lamps in the temple.”

The protesters demanded to take immediate actions against anti-social elements from the concerned government officials during the protest.

Rajshekhar, Shyamaraj Birthi, Manjunath Giliyar and William Martis among others were present during the protest.
