Sullia, Mar 19: Subrahmanya police have arrested three women, who are said to be involved in a number of thefts in Karnataka and elsewhere. These arrests were made on Thursday March 17.
The arrested women have been identified as Shobha (32), Shanta (18), and Surekha (14) from Koppal district.
They had arrived at the temple town by a private vehicle, and were moving around under suspicious circumstances. The police who were on patrol duty approached the women and the driver of their vehicle for questioning, when they tried to flee. The police chased them and succeeded in arresting the trio. Driver of the vehicle, Prashant Dhawan, however, succeeded in giving he policemen a slip.
Apart from taking the women into custody, the vehicle was also confiscated. During their questioning, the women confessed to their role in several thefts which were committed in Karnataka and some other states. Purse, cash, clothes and cellphones were seized from the possession of the women.
The arrested women were produced in a court here upon which they were remanded to judicial custody. The police in the meanwhile, are searching for the absconding driver.
