Udupi, Mar 16: All Karnataka Janajagruti Vedike protested in Udupi today and submitted a petition to the government of Karnataka through the deputy commissioner over the state government’s proposal to issue 1,500 new liquor licences.
The statement issued to the media says that the state government is planning to issue 1,500 new liquor licences and an announcement will be made during the budget of 2016-17. The information has appeared in the media.
The statement also reads “Excise minister Manohar Tahasildar also made a statement in this regard when he took over as minister. There was an opposition for this from throughout the state. But people were happy that the proposal would not be introduced, shocking news has come that the government will issue new liquor licences to increase its revenues. It is a setback for Janajagruti Vedike which has been campaigning against liquor for the past 25 years. “
