Mangaluru, Mar 16: Bertrand Russell English Medium High School has bagged the coveted ‘Best Consumer Club’ award for the year 2015-2016 in the district.
The district administration, DK district, here, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs dept, of the city in association with district consumer information center, here observed 'World Consumer Day' on March 15.
A function in this regard was held at Zilla Panchayath Auditorium Hall Kottara in the city. As many as 60 schools participated in the competition. The principal of St Philomena College Puttur, prof Leo Noronha awarded the prize to the students of Bertrand Russell School, at a function held at Nethravathi Auditorium of DK Zilla Panchayath on March 15.
The students of Bertrand Russell School have been instrumental in bringing awareness among the consumers of the district. Students downloaded few important judgements of the District Consumer Forum pronounced recently and got them printed and published in a book. The students distributed the copies of these books to the general public to educate them about their rights and to make them understand what District Consumer Forum is all about.
Other campaigns such as house visits, organising seminars, visits to consumer redressal forum, LIC office, RTO office, travel agency, traffic police station, ration shop were conducted to educate the consumers about their rights. The students even competed in various competitions such as quiz, slogan writing, collage making, elocution, essay writing, debate pertaining to the rights and remedies for the consumers.
