Udupi, Mar 15: A boy who was waiting by the side of the road to cross it was killed by a speeding car that unexpectedly went wayward. The incident occurred on Sunday March 13.
Chirag (13), a resident of Uplady near Bannadi, Kota in the taluk, lost his life in this accident. Chirag had bought some things from a nearby shop and was standing by the side of road to cross it to reach his home, when a car which was moving towards Bannadi from the direction of Viveka High School Kota suddenly moved aside and hit him.
The injured boy was immediately rushed to a hospital at Brahmavar, but he died before any medical help could be extended.
Chirag was a seventh standard student of Paramahamsa aided higher primary school, Bannadi. The car which hit the boy tumbled into roadside ditch, but its driver escaped with minor injuries. The locals expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that the car was moved to police station within minutes without conducting proper inquest. They demanded stern steps and payment of compensation to the bereaved family.
Chirag is survived by parents, who work as coolies, and a brother. His parents were living in a rented house at Uplady since the last several years, and this catastrophe has left the family in deep shock.
Brahmavar police circle inspector, Arun B Nayak, visited the spot, pacified the irate public, and promised to ensure that the family is properly compensated.
