Mangaluru, Mar 8: The governor of Lions district 317D Lion Kavitha S Shastry inaugurated the international women's day celebration at A J Hospital and Research Center on March 8.

In her address she called upon the women to take care of their health so that they can take care of the family's health in turn. "Spend at least thirty minutes a day for yourself. Introspect about your day and try to make the next day better. This is the first thing I want every woman present to do. The second thing a woman must do is to have values in her life. Always have an urge to do good to others as a human being. The third and the most important thing is, you need to take care of your health. I always thank my ancestors and parents for the excellent health I have inherited from them. We women can take care of our family's health only if we are in good health.

"We must be always careful about how much we eat and drink. Everything within limits will always keep you healthy. Be happy in whatever you do and try to extract happiness in whatever you do," she said.
Speaking on the occasion, the past district governor K C Prabhu said, "We have to ponder on the fact that if today is Women's Day, then what are the remaining 364 days. There should not be any discrimination in any field by way of men and women. They are the two sides of a coin. Without each other nothing is possible in the world."

"Today women are alongside men in every sector. Even in the Lions Club ladies are taking up programmes like this one, which most men would normally not think of. I convey my wishes of international women's day on the occasion."

The director of administration Dr Amitha Marla in her presidential address said, "A J hospital has always been working for women's health and organising programmes in this regard. We women are often unaware of health related programmes organized specially for us. Even if we come to know about these we do not find time to get their benefit, due to our commitment towards our family. On this occasion, I call upon all women to give time for your personal health and reap the benefits health related programmes."

Executive officer of Mulki panchayat and a member of the Lioness Club Vani Alva was honored on the occasion.

Ln Deepa welcomed the gathering while Glevin D'Souza rendered the vote of thanks.

A free health checkup for women and a cancer awareness workshop were organised after the programme.
