Karkala, Mar 7: B Sadashiva Acharya (82), a philanthropist living at main road here lost his life on Sunday March 6 after being knocked down by an auto rickshaw.
Acharya was going for a walk on the road in front of his house on Sunday evening, when an auto rickshaw which came from behind jumped over the footpath and hit him hard. Acharya, who fell down, suffered severe head injuries. Although he was taken to a hospital at Manipal for treatment, he could not be saved.
The deceased is survived by two sons and five daughters.
Sadashiva Acharya was the founder president of Gangamma Charitable Trust Borkatte, through which a number of poor and talented students received financial assistance for pursuing their dreams. On a particular day every year, he was following the practice of distributing rice and utensils to poor people.
He had inspired founding of Vishwakarma Education Trust at various districts by providing initial funds. Both his sons, who are also noted philanthropists, have been following the path shown by their father.
