Sullia, Mar 7: A floodlit volleyball tournament that was to be held at Gandhinagar here on Saturday March 5 was cancelled after the audiences and participant teams found that the organizers of the event had neither come there, nor made arrangements to run the tournament.

A local organization had given wide publicity for this national level tournament planned at this venue. The organizers had sold tickets worth thousands of rupees by claiming that a number of famous teams from across the country would be in action at the tournament. They had announced rewards of Rs 40,016 to the victorious team, and Rs 30,016, Rs 15,016 and Rs 10,016 for the teams placed second, third and fourth. Construction of a gallery for the seating arrangement of spectators worth four lac rupees had begun, but it had not progressed further because of non-payment of money, it is gathered.

Although tickets had been sold, those who visited the venue on Saturday night found that courts for the play had not been marked, and no one was working to supervise the matches. Audiences and also some participating teams who came there found to their chagrin that no arrangements were made and organizers were not to be found. Upon making calls to the organizers, the people gathered that their phones were switched off. lt is said that the organizers continued to remain elusive on Sunday.
