Mangaluru: NICO to hold media fest ‘Beacons 2016 ’ on Mar 8 & 9

Mangaluru, Mar 3: “Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), unit of Nitte University will host its third media fest, 'Beacons 2016' on March 8 and 9 for the undergraduate and post graduate students of all the streams across India,” revealed Professor Raviraj Kini, head of department, NICO.

Addressing a press meet at press club here on Thursday March 3, Professor Raviraj said, “The fest will be inaugurated by prominent film maker B S Lingadevaru, director of the award winning Kannada film 'Naanu Avanalla Avalu' on March 8 at Paneer campus in Deralakatte. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Vishal Hegde, pro chancellor of Nitte University.” 

“The fest which focuses on film symposium as well as various competitions is expecting a participation of at least 15 colleges from around Karnataka. Along with film symposium by the resource person, the first day will also include competitions like creative writing, movie spoof, product launch, radio jockey, jam, standup comedy and poster making.”

“Natesh Ullal, a well known film maker from the coastal belt will be the resource person for second day film symposium on March 9. The second day will also see the participation of students in crisis management, face painting, media quiz. mock press and mime show. The valedictory ceremony will be presided over by Natesh Ullal.”

Deekshita Prashanth, faculty coordinator, NICO said, “Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), part of Nitte University, has been offering a clutch of innovative UG and PG programs in media and communication from the last three years. The students here have access to a state of the art broadcast studio, print design, TV editing and web design labs, library, wifi campus and fully digital facilities for professional education and research in the area of communication and journalism. The curriculum is fully in tune with the needs of a student who wishes to serve the modern media industry and society.”

“The inaugurator B S Lingadevaru, Kannada filmmaker is a successful TV and film director from Tipatur. His award winning movies include 'Mouni' and 'Kaada Beladingalu' and his latest, 'Naanu Avanalla Avalu', has won plaudits for depicting the challenges faced by India's transgender community. Shot in real locations and featuring nearly 150 transgender cast members, the film won leading man Sanchari Vijay the best actor award at the 62nd national film awards.”

“A Mangaluru based film-maker, Natesh Ullal has been recognized in the field of film making through his documentaries on various social issues.”
