Five tourists fall off cliff while clicking selfie in Goa

Panaji, Mar 3 (PTI): Five tourists were injured, two of them severely, when they fell off a cliff while clicking selfies at Anjuna village here.

Goa police have asked a sub-divisional magistrate to record the statement of two of the women who were seriously injured in the incident and admitted to hospital.

The five persons fell off the cliff on February 22 when the gate of the railing on which they were leaning opened, police said.

The incident occurred near the hillside cottages where the tourists were staying.

"Two women fell on their back on a stone and are currently admitted in a private hospital. The doctors have said that they might be paralysed for life," police inspector Paresh Naik told PTI today.

The three others were discharged after primary treatment, he said.

"The family members of the two women have refused to file any formal police complaint, but we have requested sub- divisional magistrate to record their statements," Naik said.

Police refused to divulge the names of the women, but said that all those injured in the incident are in their late 20s.

Safety standards are the major factors around us. So, take utmost care and do not lean on anything unless you are sure about it.
We have thousands of qualified safety officers who are seeking jobs. We are reluctant to create jobs for them though we lack in safety standards.

The five tourists should have been careful while taking selfies. There have been many deaths and injuries due to this pictures taken as selfies but still many are careless. I wish a speedy recovery of those injured in this accident. This should be a lesson to others.
